There are plenty of fucking reasons, my taste is not yours (thank fuck!), maybe you should take the stick out your ass and chillax.
Microsoft's prolific first party could be the only reasons. And they're down to one thing you all seem to care about. A lot. Enough to put up with seemingly anything the rumors throw at you.

Dismissing this as an unlikely rumor. Good. Rationalizing this kind of anti-consumer nonsense across an entire platform? Horrible.

And yes. THANK FUCK I HAVE STANDARDS.

PS. Halo was also one of my favorite franchises too. I'll abandon anything that turns against me.

Wont you be supporting EA's crap also when buying BF?
This is kinda true. It isn't like we wouldn't love to punish publishers at times, but we just can't help it. We need our damn games lol. There's a reason why I haven't bought another Activision game or COD game since learning how Activision treated Infinity Ward after they completed MW2. It clearly hasn't stopped every COD game since from selling like gangbusters, though. However, here comes Bungie's Destiny, and now I'm more than prepared to break that rule. Don't get me wrong, I'm siding with the consumer, too, but people only care about their own personal interests a lot of times. It isn't like I don't care about other people, but why would I deny myself something simply because other people may be inconvenienced by it or may not like it? Now that's silly.

People hated Origin, and probably still hate it, but now so many people are using it anyway, because they don't want to deny themselves simple pleasures. And why don't they deny themselves these basic things? Because they know they are capable of meeting whatever requirements that are set by Origin. People have still put hours and hours into BF3, even knowing what Origin is about.

My Apple TV requires an internet connection and a login to my Apple Store Account to use, in my view, it's most useful feature, video streaming. You can go further and say Apple TV has another requirement for its best feature, you need to own a computer! Why would I get the device knowing that this is most likely how it would work when I got it? I got it because I'm not impacted negatively by any of this. It's the same thing with the new Xbox. Always online requirement doesn't affect me, nor does it inconvenience me. No used games does affect me and is what I would call an inconvenience, but not for the same reasons that a lot of other people list, which is they want to buy used games for cheap. I don't like buying my games used. It would be an inconvenience to me because I like to be able to do with my own games what I please. I don't mind not being able to resell them, or buy games used. I do mind not being able to hand my copy of my game to a trusted friend or family member to play and enjoy, or for them, should the need ever arise, to do the same for me.

Oh god.. the fucking Apple TV again. SPIN SPIN SPIN.

You're truly hopeless.

Dude.. no. You don't. If you don't care about this, you don't actually care about controlling the ownership of your games. You can rationalize that too.

No, I actually agree with Grift on this. PC games have always had serial codes and those codes prevented used games since before I can recall. But the difference being I didn't have to be on the internet to use them.

A lot of my friends own a 360 because it's the cheapest platform with the most games. They don't have XBL. Granted that's not who Microsoft is aiming at, but I really think they could be distancing themselves with late adopters in the future. And back on the point of reliable internet, there are still a lot of rural areas in 2013 that have subpar/shitnet. Bumfuck USA is a no joke, and right now they're all onboard with the 360, and not necessarily XBL.

74mil consoles have sold, and only 30mil accounts remember? Even though I'm on my 8/9th Xbox (I've got like 11 accts btw) that's a lot of people who haven't Jumped In.

Durango is not a platform that exists. You do not enjoy gaming on Durango. You never have. You're apparently informing your entire opinion about it based on your experience with the Xbox 360.

Durango is not Xbox 360. And please. If you don't give a fuck, don't give a fuck more quietly. The fact that you're engaging me here tells me you feel the need to defend this. And honestly, you should. You should feel guilty as hell for even accepting such low standards as a consumer. Because it's bad for the entire population of gamers.

My opinion is being informed by current events and the information we're discussing in this thread. Yours is apparently being informed by your love for Xbox.

That's pretty lame.

I'm not aimlessly railing against Durango here. I'm railing against this terrible rumor. That everyone here would like to rationalize.

My opinion is about the rumor. A rumor I'll assume is untrue until Microsoft says it isn't.

I don't have a final opinion on a product that I've never seen. Unlike you guys. Who will bend over backwards to accommodate every rumor to fit the next Xbox into your lives.

It warps the mind.

I fucking well wouldn't. I rent games remember, it's the foundation of my gaming. Any sort of active online DRM and anti used game system kills a console outright. I would have no use for a PS4, just like i wouldn't have any use for a 720 if the rumours end up true.

I've always been a believer that games are all that matter for a console. If you want halo, you'll buy the console that can play halo. If you want uncharted, you'll buy the console that can play uncharted. But that really isn't the case. When it comes to stuff like this, principles and standards come into play. No amount of uncharted could get me to buy a system with no used/rented games i'm afraid.

I'd just stick with The vita. Which suffers neither of these issues,

I wouldn't. My principles wouldn't allow it. Just like if games started being sold not only with online passes, but single player passes. How can ANYONE support a system like that, where you don't even have access to the disc you just bought without inputting a one use, system locked code. It would be bullshit. It hands over far too much control to the publisher and the higher ups. No thanks. I'd just go elsewhere. There are other options out there.

There are no used games on the PC and never have been. And the second question is retarded because it's never going to happen, but yes. Unless I was buying an online only game I will not buy it for a platform that requires an active internet connection. Steam doesn't even do this. Yes. Steam has an offline mode. A friggin online distribution model. The most established. And you can play your games offline just fine.

There is no danger of this happening. Period. There are plenty of alternatives out there to avoid this kind of anti-consumerism. I make such decisions on a game-by-game and platform-by-platform basis. Like a person who thinks.

Way to have nothing to do with this conversation.
I think it has a lot to do with the conversation, as it showcases in a very simplified way, that singleplayer gaming has changed on consoles. Me, a person that doesn't give a damn about playing multiplayer over xbox live, is always connected to it and can be reached by anybody on my friends list regardless. I was connected to Xbox Live 100% of the time I played every single singleplayer gaming experience I've touched on the Xbox 360.
And it certainly will be a headache for millions of users at one point or another. It will no doubt shrink the potential size of Microsoft's market. The idea that we're living in a world where everyone on both ends of this equation will always have reliable access is laughable. And really, that's not even the fucking point. If you buy something that does not actively use your data connection while you are playing it than there is absolutely no reason for it to require an internet connection. If you can provide a good, pro-consumer reason for having such a fucking functionality, please, let me know.
Xbox Live actively uses my data connection, and that's something you know when you buy an Xbox console nowadays. The game itself need not actively use our data connections, because the console itself already is. I like being on Xbox Live when I play even my singleplayer games. I like the thought of it, I like the experience. I like seeing when friends sign in, I like them to see when I sign in. I like seeing what games friends are playing (or have them see what I'm playing) or what they are doing at the moment on their consoles and vice versa, I like being able to be messaged or contacted by these friends, or for me to do the same to them. I think this is a cool thing for consumers, to be connected like this, even if we aren't actively engaging in multiplayer online gaming. I like the thought of being able to look at gamertags, or people to look at my own. This may not be a reason you agree with, but I think it's a valid reason for Xbox live to exist, for people to want to be connected to it at all times, and for Microsoft to potentially want everybody to be connected to it to take advantage of it.

And you seem to more or less agree that this won't be an issue for you, but then you cite the millions (AND THE MILLIONS)

of potential users, as if it will really matter to most consumers that millions of people might suffer minor inconveniences while using a product. Most consumers could care less about the size of Microsoft's potential market. They have enough money as it is. People are more interested in their own personal comfort. The fact that other people, possibly millions of them, might be slightly inconvenienced in a way that I myself will not be, does not matter to me, and it shouldn't. If we're talking about a serious product defect, that's a different story altogether, but if this is the product they are putting out, an online required product, I don't have an issue with it. And if people buy this product knowing they will be negatively impacted, then they would be idiots for doing so. I would have more of an issue with the used games thing, but certainly not this.

Seriously? No used games and online only play cuts the install base by a maximum 50%. 74mil consoles sold - 30mil Gold/Silver XBL accounts. I won't even try to do the math of duplicate accounts and 59% failure rate of hardware.

The rumors are bad news for a potential 34mil Xbox 360 owners. End of discussion.

Any legitimate counter arguments as to why this is a good thing or are you guys going to defend what could be baseless rumors?
