this is going to effect sales for both of them. so i wonder how well it all pays out for pubs. they'll have less consoles sold so a smaller userbase. anyone with a braincell would wait on games to become INCREDIBLE cheap. so they'd get an influx of £5 purchases and barely any £40 purchases. i hope that was their intention, otherwise they're going to stuggle...and so they should, fuck em.
Inscrit depuis 7446 JoursThat sounds more than a little generous compared to some of the other restrictions so it stands out a bit. Then again, how many people are going to have more than one Xbox One and/or good TV? I think this is going to be an expensive box. How is "family" defined? If everyone starts setting up a family of ten of their friends, how does this work out for Microsoft and publishers?
Maybe the Xbox has to be on the same subnet to be classed as a "family" machine. Even then, that could be circumvented on a VPN. Whilst this sounds like a benefit, there are still some questions.
Although the online phone-home requirement doesn't effect me, I can't for the life of me understand why they can't just have an offline mode ala Steam.
And as far as loaning games goes, it should be as easy as selecting the gamertag and saying how long you want to loan them the game for. That this "won't be available" at launch suggests a bit of a rethink.
Sony can have the same set up here and still look like heroes just by explaining the thing coherently for a start.

Used games needs to stay since ALOT of people trade in games they dont play anymore or they cant afford full game prices so they get used copies.

Inscrit depuis 7450 JoursI already complimented Sony for being very smart and slick about things. They've stood silently while Microsoft has taken all the heat up front. While everyone is pelting Microsoft with rocks, they have been quietly filing DRM patents and getting a pass from a fan base that is in serious stage of denial, but are all in for very rude awakening soon. Sony's potential DRM policies (that is if they implement those patents) make Microsoft's look quite friendly. lol Sony HATES hackers and used games more than Microsoft.
But I repeat my earlier position. CHEAPER GAMES from the publishers will make this bitter pill go down easier. I hope they catch on to that wisdom sooner rather than later.

Inscrit depuis 7444 JoursGamers love to share their games to friends and family for FREE and play forever if they choose to and trade in games they dont play anymore or trade in games that suck ass, plain simple.
I only focus on single player games so the replayvalue is very vague in most games these days so if i plan on getting a game i finish it and if i see i got no more use of playing it anymore i want to trade that game in and get another game I am interested.
But since this how its going to be from now on, then so be it. I will just buy less games and be much more nitpicking than I already am (lol) on picking the games I am interested in buying.
I will never support on paying extra money on something that I already paid fair for and own and should be my decision on what to do with, wtf is this...Tron all of a sudden? lol
Reminds me of the concept of Tron Legacy how original software creator wanted it free for fans yet a new chief takes over the company and decides that people should pay for it yet gets leaked and downloaded within minutes and they get pissed about it.

Inscrit depuis 6904 JoursI mean, i figured that by now i could buy a game for a decent price, especially used, so i go in the store and look it up. Game costs 499:- (that's swedish money) and it sells for 599:- new (that's $91,5, which is fucking outrageous by the way. Gamestop/GAME have a tendency to inflate prices to insane levels here). Mind you the game i was looking at was like 4-5 months old at this point. Then i go online and find it for 350:- at PSN and around 250-300 in stores that aren't run by lunatics. Does that sound like a store you'd want to spend your money at? I sure don't want to get economically sodomized while perpetuating their awful practices.

Inscrit depuis 7446 JoursThat being said, surely there are better ways of implementing a licence transfer system than this car crash, at least as far as they've "explained" it. It reeks of a deal still in flux, designed to placate the GameStop's of this world as much as the bigger 3rd party publishers and that quite simply is not a zero sum equation. They've spent three years largely treading water with the 360, presumably to focus on what's next and right now the perception is that it's a mess. PR interviews being canceled for next week. What confidence anyone can have in the rest of their execution I don't know.
"Lending games is not available at launch" despite this huge architecture they have in place. They couldn't work out a way to simply say, I have transferred my licence to my friend for a few days.
Fair play to Bramwell at Eurogamer for saying his bit.

Inscrit depuis 7517 JoursThere seem to be people that are so worried about all of the people in the videogame industry that they are willing to accept any business and DRM measures that may give more money to that industry. People that are looking at this with a very limited view. People that are just accepting this. People that just tell others to dealwithit. I find this annoying being just a videogame user and as a customer. Maybe I am selfish, but I don't want to sacrifice my freedom and enjoyment to that altar.
I am more willing to accept dropping one A from those triple A games. If some of those A's represents the length of a game, then that is not the one I would drop. And, it seems like that property is missing from many triple A games anyways.
As I said, I am no insider of the industry. So I don't know where most of the money in development goes. Some say that it is more expensive than ever. Are computers more expensive? Are people more expensive? Are there too many people sharing the profits? If anything, it should be now easier than ever to make games because surely development tools are more advanced and user-friendly now than years ago. Detail levels have naturally gone up, but that has a lot to do with textures. It just means that there is no reason to use blurry textures. :) If PS4 and Xbox One really are turning into PCs, then that must also help a lot.
I can at least spot one thing that must be a factor in all of this. There are so many developers. There were 149 third-party partners shown in PS4 reveal. And, that means there are many sharing the same cake. Maybe there just is not enough cake to share to so many. Not all of the games can find enough gamers. This means that many may struggle and some may drop. Big developers may have the upper hand in someways, but this can also actually benefit small developers. They don't have huge organisations that need to churn out games continuously to keep them afloat.
Like with any business, it is a struggle. Artificially keeping this struggle going on with excessive practices like micro transactions, attacks against used games, overproducing of down-loadable content (to a point when it feels like it was cut on purpose to be sold later), online authentications, advertisements sneaking in, timed exclusives, sequelitis and even region locks don't feel that nice. Some may even like some of these. I am not a fan.
People also say that PC players have already accepted most of this. It may be true, but they at least have lower prices to lean on. And it doesn't make it better. For me consoles have been about putting the game in, enjoying the game, end of. It may be oldschool, but if it is better, then why should I want or accept something else? It is sad too see videogame industry evolving into something that just is not better.
