No, they haven't said that. They've actually sorta implied that they have a very similar system in place and that publishers can opt in/out of it.

I think the days of a console where you simply throw a disc in and boot it up are over.
The good news is that for a publishers or developer to opt in they have to provide their own servers (on PS4 at least) which for many could be too much of a hassle and expense, of course the bigger publishers like Ubisoft, EA and Activision will probably jump on it no questions asked.

Can we please ban KORNdog from all Xbox related topics or at least rename him Korn_PS3Fan, because this is going on for years - I just cannot read that blind Sony praise anymore. Grow up and get out of the Microsoft threads man, don't you have a life?
He's allowed his opinion just like the rest of us, he isn't half as bad as he used to be, and to be fair most of what he says has some truth behind it.

Granted we all may get a rude awakening on Monday only time will tell.

You are sounding very arrogant. Should Xbox thread be about praising the Xbox? That is blind praising. Feel free to ignore me too.

The only "upgrade" to anything is being able to share a game you've installed on your own Xbox. So let's say a pair of siblings in a house have an Xbox each, only one of them need buy the game and then they can both play together on different devices at the same time.

That sounds more than a little generous compared to some of the other restrictions so it stands out a bit. Then again, how many people are going to have more than one Xbox One and/or good TV? I think this is going to be an expensive box. How is "family" defined? If everyone starts setting up a family of ten of their friends, how does this work out for Microsoft and publishers?
Yeah sounds good but need to know the specifics on how that would work?

Found the last line interesting.
In a note to investors today, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter said the majority of publishers will not block used games, at least in the system's first few yeas.

"In our view, any publisher that disables used gaming risks a backlash or boycott of its titles by gamers, negatively impacting sales," he said.

Pachter told GameSpot that activation fees are similarly unlikely.

"They would face a huge backlash. They wanted manufacturers to do the dirty work, and both refused," he said.

That's all specualtion at this stage and this does not change the fact that you have to have your console connected to the internet at least once every 24 hours. I say SCRAP that filth right now or you will regret it MS.

Can share with 10 ppl. But it can be shared only once ? They have to be in your list for 30 days.

Does it means 10 ppl can share it and play online all at a same time ? If you share it with someone you can use it as well right ? If that is the case it is awesome idea. I though it would be yo,u have to disable it and then other guy gets to play the used copy. So basically tied with 1 person only

I doubt the once every 24hr connection will effect MS sales much (retail outlets are saying biggest pre-orders in there history) i do however wonder what this DRM thing will mean for games?, will less be sold or will the dev's still sell the same amount?, of course this being the beginning of the next-gen, numbers will have to relative, but still it will be interesting non the less.

Wow. Sony is really taking the an opportunity here. Going for the Jugular. PS+ Members getting Uncharted 3, XCOM, Saints Row 3, LBP Kart racing for free! That's crazy. Very smart/Shrewd. Not much MS can do either, aside from echoing their policy, and that can only be a good thing.

And please, no comments on Sony being some kind of benevolent entity- this is about building good( great really) PR ahead of a new generation launch. Long live competition.

I think it means you can share with up to ten profiles on the home console or possible a console on the same IP address, I doubt you will be able to have 10 people log in and use the same game at the same time.

If it is the later you guys (buying Xbones) should make a gamersyde share group lol.

What you have to remember is as much as we the core think we are the majority buyer of games/consoles, we are not... theres a reason why almost every game forum hates on COD and yet it continues to sell gazillions!, the publishers know this and thats the reason "they think" they can get away with it, time will surely tell.

No killzone, the share with 10 family accounts is a very specific feature. Most like it will require child accounts to be created on one master xbox and those accounts can then access those games in another location so long as nobody else from that account it using games.

They have very carefully left the details out of that "feature" but if you extrapolate how draconian the other features are and apply them to this then you can figure out how it will work.

It sure as hell won't allow 10 friends to access the same games at the same time after only having paid for one licence. I mean look at all the other restrictions, you can only lend a game once which is in contrast to the family members thing.

The lending one is a bit wooly too, they don't say how long you can lend it to them or the restrictions on that, I expect it won't let you play the game if you have lent it to somebody, can you recall the game back at any time? Will it revert to the owner after a set period of time?

I doubt you can play one game on multiple consoles simultaneously. Probably more like, they can play it if you aren't, which seems obvious to me. This goes to how you can share your games with friends/family, I think, and why it needs to be verified online. I wonder if the game doesn't need to "check in" if you have the disk in the drive... .

I understand that, but the core are the initial majority that come out and buy day 1, which is why I'm interested to see how the game sales pan out this year and next.

Well then 10 ppl is a catch and misleading. Even if they make it for 2-3 with all able to play game at same time it would be better and you could recommend your best friends XO which could be good for you as well as Microsoft. I think many ppl buying it are not going to know these terms and condition. I never read it. Even if it is 10-15 lines. lol

Very true, hence the high number of pre orders. Ignorance is bliss after all. Where those people will run into problems is when an unaware parent buys a game off eBay and gives it to little Timmy, only for it to not work. The ignorant buyers might get MS through launch, but I bet they come back to bite them in the ass.

No kidding. I've never understood why gamers have taken any comfort in Sony's silence during this whole ordeal. But if you're Sony, why say anything? Your main competitor has been taking a nasty beating on these issues for nearly 4 months now. Gamers think Microsoft is a pariah, why break that street fight up? Let those gamers keep holding Microsoft's feet to the fire. While everyone is distracted by all of the yelling, screaming and tears (*boo hoo*), they'll continue to file DRM patents and pretend to be the opposite of whatever position Microsoft takes.

Sony continues to enjoy great press and rave reviews from devs over how fast and easy development is for the PS4. They can play this low key and just wait this whole thing out while Microsoft continues to stumble from one PR blunder to the next. Brilliant.

Of course it doesn't. But what happens after the wait? Do you really think all of these hypocrites out there are going to not purchase a PS4? Or will they start lining up to defend Sony's policies?

Grift I'm serious, get ready to watch all of these people dance to Sony's DRM music.

  • Driftwood
