Some would say the right to buy whatever a person wants with their own money is in itself an important consumer right. There are purchase considerations for people that go beyond simply what the console's policies are, although I'm not suggesting that they aren't important. They are clearly important to enough people. However, those are far from being the only considerations. As long as there are games that people want on the Xbox One, but can't get on the PS4, and vice versa, people will want an Xbox One or a PS4 for their own personal reasons, and it isn't really anybody's place to tell someone their justifications for wanting either console is wrong, unless of course it truly is wrong.

Today I got a call from a friend that told me he just pre-ordered an Xbox One for Infamous, and I said while laughing, "Hey, man, I hate to disappoint you, but Infamous isn't coming to the Xbox One. It's a PS4 exclusive." I also had someone in my family say the other day that they are thinking about a buying a PS4 at launch, but they may just end up waiting for Quantum Break to release before buying a PS4. So, to me, it's only under such circumstances that I feel obligated to tell someone, "No, you're wrong." There's a lot of people really not feeling or being phased by any of the negativity around the Xbox One and are still just as committed as ever to getting what they feel is best for them, irrelevant of what they see or hear from anyone. However, if someone's argument is so persuasive that it really gets you to look at all your previous beliefs in a new light, then by all means take that person's advice. Beyond that, I don't see the point in demanding an explanation from someone for wanting either console for their own reasons.

I know people after yesterday saying they are buying Xbox One for twitchtv live streaming. People don't all think in a hivemind.

A lot of people simply have NO idea what the different consoles offer or what restrictions there are. They will get an Xbone simply because they had a 360 or they'll get a PS4 because Playstation is a familiar name. If you encounter these people, it's not disrespectful of their rights as consumers to shed some light on the finer details of the different platforms. Quite the opposite! You would help them make informed decisions.

I'm not sure I'm going to be getting a next gen console.

I think the PS4 is pretty good but it fizzles when it comes to exclusives (just nothing there that floats my boat, i'm not saying those games are poo)

I think the XO has got some really nice features and some games I'm interested in but I don't want to support their policies.

So I guess for the next year or two I'll be sticking to PC (Yay GOG, Steam and the humble bundles!). Oculus Rift looks promising!

But what about those people that say they know all the details, have accepted those details, then still say they want an Xbox One or a PS4 because they want to play a specific exclusive that isn't on the other platform? What then? Are people know nothing idiots for wanting to play the next Halo? Or the next Forza? Or for being interested in games like Quantum Break from great developers such as Remedy? Or any of the other solid looking exclusive titles coming to the platform such as Titanfall? That's what it ultimately boils down to. There are plenty of games that look like they are worth having, or that at least deserve a playthrough on the Xbox One, and people aren't willing to deprive themselves of a basic degree of enjoyment just to fall in line with what everybody else believes. I'm among those getting a PS4. In fact, my PS4 is already pre-ordered. I 'll have it on launch, but I also see no valid reason to deny myself of some of the games on the Xbox One that have caught my attention, which is why I also intend to have that on launch also.

That's what it boils down to. Gamer sees game. Game wants to play game by any means. I know what people think. They think that if people accept this, that there's almost nothing they wouldn't accept, and that isn't true at all. Let's say Microsoft demanded mandatory xbox live gold to play any games at all. Now that, to me, would warrant a boycott on principle alone. The rest of the issues in question simply don't bring me and a lot of other people to that breaking point. Why I be perfectly happy if they didn't exist at all? Sure. Nobody asked for any of this stuff, but games need games, and while it may be easy for some to ignore certain Xbox exclusive titles, I can't ignore Remedy's new game or the next Halo, and things like Spark and Titanfall. But what excites me beyond words for the next Xbox is the fact that games now have dedicated servers. I hated the idea of peer to peer, and now I won't have to live with it anymore. I like that.

Just checking in on the MS train wreck 18 months in the making.
Posté par deftangel
The price and other baggage towers over a decent E3 showing for me.
Hey Deft, too early to start trading future PSN user IDs? Last gamer off XBL please turn off the lights!

Btw, MS's continued fubar handling of the XB division is at its shining glory today. They diverted away from the core, came in HIGH on price, LOW on performance, and garnered a ton of VERY negative press. MS PR is laughable bad (I blame the guys at the top of the division--hubris to a new high). The funny part is Sony came in with a DRM strategy that will end up mirroring MS in the end (RE: note how everything will slowly shifty to digital anyhow and Sony will adopt steam methods) AND they are now charging for ONLINE MP. You can poke a LOT of holes in Sony right now.

But who cares? This is just like the PS3/360. All the Sony trolls were upset because everyone was ignoring the MS issues. DUH! The PS3 was an absolute cluster @#$@$ when it launched. A disaster of EPIC proportions.

And now Sony fans can see Xbox tards wiggle under the same devotion. MS #$@# up. BAD. Top to bottom. And the ball got rolling with their constant destruction of internal studios, getting $$$ signs over the eyes over media, getting in bed with big media in regards to DRM, mesmorized with the Wii/Kinect social angle, mistaking their 12 mo lead and snagging exclusives as a sustainable strategy, and the HUBRIS they could ratchet up the price to $500 on 2010 hardware when their competitor has BETTER hardware for CHEAPER. Heck, they even pissed off Indie devs and axed BC for XBLA!

It is a joke all around. I am annoyed because Project Spark looks great, I like Halo/loath Killzone, FM>GT, and dig my XBLA library, and the new Kinect looks cool (minus for not going with MOVE controllers) and FF gamepad sounds cool. BUT I am getting my dollars worth seeing MS get raked over the media coals for all the RIGHT reasons.

I say that with a bit of disgust because Sony got a free pass from so many consumers AND from the press but alas I still enjoy seeing MS get what they deserve. On the other hand I think too many people are lauding Sony. They killed FREE online, the hardware while good (and MUCH better than Xbone) still compromised too much for an APU and their CPU lacks any brute SIMD beef (if they wanted Jag they should have doubled up with AVX2). That said all that is besides the point: Xbone is horrible!

Haha and at $500 bones you STILL need a cable box, for all the getting in bed with big media they STILL don't have DVR, and hahahaha consumers have to foot the bill to play BDR movies?

Everything about Xbone is epically BAD. It is like they INTENTIONALLY wanted a train wreck. NO ON stopped it. No one said, "Guys, we need to scrap this and DELAY 12 months."

The sad thing for everyone is 2014 is the year of great technological leaps--FINFET, SI, stacked memory, memory on logic, etc. By 2015 we will be seeing good tiered SSD/HDD solutions and display tech/chips getting affordable enough to be everywhere small.

See, the reason for depriving themselves of enjoyment isn't necessarily this hivemind scenario of falling in line with what everybody else believes. It's recognizing a host of shitty policies, a peripheral that is largely unwanted, a higher pricepoint, and not wanting to support a company that treats its customers poorly(There are new threads on Reddit almost every day about how fucking impossible it is to cancel auto-renewal of Xbox Live gold memberships...except if you live in certain states where it is basically illegal to make cancelling a service difficult).
The rest of the issues in question simply don't bring me and a lot of other people to that breaking point.
And that's good for you and those other people. But clearly there are serious enough issues since it at least seems like the majority thinks MS has dropped the ball hard.
I can't ignore Remedy's new game or the next Halo, and things like Spark and Titanfall.
I'll be upset that I probably won't get to play the next Halo or Titanfall, but I'd be more upset if I dropped $500 to support a company undeserving of it.

Well, fair enough, can't fault anyone for having their views and sticking with them.

http://gamersyde.com/news_e3_forza_5_60_fps_gamepl...

I'm literally just now finding out that the driver's hands and the steering wheel are reflected in the windshield during gameplay. Turn 10 really surprised me with this one.

I also gotta say, I'm starting to grow on Ryse, and I'm not even a big fan of Crytek's titles.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/11/is-ryse-son...
Or throw them on the ground and curb-stomp them. Or just bash their faces in with a shield. I did notice the execution animations repeating a little in the short time I played – more than one barbarian met his end via spontaneous tonsillectomy or by being contextually bashed against a wall when conveniently positioned - so I asked how many we’d see in the final product. “Over 100,” promised the Crytek rep – an answer which left me feeling pretty good about the odds of being continually shocked by new and creative murders. Is it a little macabre to find that entertaining? Sure... and perhaps it's apt that this is a game about a society that treated gladiatorial combat as a sporting event to appease the masses.

These executions aren’t quite quick time events, in that most of them are simply one-button prompts rather than a sequence, and failing them by pushing the wrong button usually still results in a dead barbarian, just with a smaller batch of experience points as a reward. That’s a good touch, since it does away with the frustration repetition of a mandatory sequence and lets the action continue.
An abundance of XP leads to better upgrades, I’m told. None of this happened in the demo, but Crytek says there will be plenty of upgrading to be done, focused on adding new bonuses to your attacks like gaining more XP per kill or simply doing more damage. The action won’t slow down for those upgrades, of course – there’s no central town or shop to visit. This is a non-stop war game.
I'm leaning towards grabbing it for launch now. Doesn't sound like it will be the deepest game, but it's also a launch title, so that doesn't really bother me all that much. Plus, it looks downright amazing graphically. Not exactly a graphics whore, but I have my moments. If that demo scene is any indication, then there should be some really epic looking scenes. Plus, this is about as close as I'll ever get to a Spartacus game lol.

I notice from more gameplay vids that this is strikingly similar to batman arkham asylum in its combat system. Also, what wasn't shown as well in the original demo was the fact that there's a nice bit of speed to the combat, more than I thought there was. For example, there's a very quick run animation that I see being used during combat. I also never noticed before that the other enemies could dodge your attacks as some are shown doing. The combat flows much better when you aren't overdoing the QTE, and when someone can really play and counter well, I'd go as far as to say it looks pretty damn fun.

Well, you may be right, although I can't be sure, but the one thing I know for certain is that none of Crytek's other games have really caught my attention or interest quite like this one has. It's largely about subject matter for me, and this could be my chance at something close enough to a Spartacus game that has both amazing graphics and what I assume will be enough production value to deliver crazy looking scenes like the opening scene of the demo. I like the roman empire setting, I

And reading previews on this one and seeing more gameplay vids (yes, even people that totally suck) really gives me a bit more hope for the game, and I'm now starting to get more of a vibe that this combat system is eerily similar, if not identical to Batman Arkham Asylum/Arkham City, and I loved the combat in those games, as simple as it may have been. Turns out it isn't the QTE fest I thought it was. That was the most misleading part of the demo, and what really turned me off about the game. But, learning now that you literally don't have to perform those QTE at all if you don't want to, and that there's practically no consequence at all to not performing them (on top of the fact that there will be many, many more unique kill animations to keep them from seeming too repetitive), and suddenly the game seems much more appealing to play. It sounds like an all out arcade game set in the roman empire with major war scene after major war scene, and as simplistic as that may come off, I wouldn't really mind that in a launch title. And I can't deny that I love the graphics in the game. To me, Crytek's games have always had a very arcade feel to them, but this is like Spartacus Arcade, which definitely does a better job of grabbing my attention more than some of the other things they've made.

I completely agree. It's definitely rough in parts. No doubt about it, but everything else may make me willing to overlook some of that. For example, the unlimited spear throwing scene at the archers firing burning arrows on your army was a bit awkward, but the actual crowding together of the people under your command and having them enter that formation looked pretty cool.

I thought the gameplay stuff was pretty bad too initially, but upon looking into it more and watching more gameplay vids, it's clear that, while rough, it's more a victim of a bad demonstration than it being a case of the game actually being terrible. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect this game to light up the review charts or anything, but it scratches an itch that I've wanted scratched for awhile, especially after the season finale of Spartacus. This is as close as I'll get.

I think it's uniquely suited to being a surprisingly good early launch title, but I'm not expecting to have my mind blown or anything. I just think I'll have fun with it, and I love looking at the pretty graphics :P. But gameplay is really less QTE heavy than they made it look. It just flows better is all I can say.

Anyway timed titan fall exclusive and a new halo game.. stand back everyone " therecoming atya like cleopatra " and there doing exactly as they predicted "we are going to kill SONY at E3"

Sorry OP take away halo and what do they have mate? they have exclusive timed content and a exclusive timed game..

that they "we have spent over 1 billion securing exclusive content" by "securing" they mean begging for timed and by "content" they mean DLC

Dead rising was coolest thing they had (aside from been to realistic imo) and they only got timed DLC for that.
And once i saw division.. ever single exclusive from all consoles washed away.. that was THE SHIT!
