Inscrit depuis 7450 JoursWell it looks like even more AMD resumes have been discovered, and yes they also take credit for working on a discrete graphics processor. At least one of the resumes (the 1st) was taken down. Again, proof of nothing but there was an interesting bit of information regarding Window 8.1 and discrete processors built on an APU or hybrid system. This came after the BUILD conference and I can't believe that I missed it.
Through W8.1/11.2 Microsoft has created driver models that are designed specifically for taking advantage of a dGPU that is apart of a hybrid system (APU) From the document:
A hybrid system is one that matches these criteria:
The system contains a single integrated GPU and a single discrete GPU:
The integrated GPU is integrated into the CPU chipset and outputs to an integrated display panel such as an LCD panel.
The discrete GPU is typically a removable card that connects to a motherboard chipset's north bridge through a bus such as PCI.
The discrete GPU has significantly higher performance than the integrated GPU.
The discrete GPU is a render-only device, and no display outputs are connected to it.
Both GPUs are physically enclosed in the same housing, and the discrete GPU can't be connected or disconnected while the computer is running.
The operating system detects the configuration of a hybrid system when it runs power-on self-test (POST) routines, when a new driver is installed, or when a display adapter is enabled or disabled.
Rendering on a discrete GPU using cross-adapter resources
The following sections describe the architecture and processes involved in three possible scenarios where an application renders on a discrete GPU within a hybrid system.
Redirected bitblt presentation model
The Direct3D runtime instructs the discrete GPU's user-mode display driver to create a cross-adapter resource for each swap chain surface.

Misterxmedia would naturally assume it's FOR the X1 and immediately start posting it as such. He doesn't know how to draw the line between truth and supposition. He arrives at a theory and STARTS from the premise that it's fact first, process of elimination last.
I'm not sure how he arrives to his figures. The most the board would probably be able to handle would have to be within a 100-275w envelope (based on the inductors) and not exceed 2 Billion transistors. There just isn't enough room on the die for what he's now claiming.

I love the idea that you can continue building on a Surface Pro!

I decided to get WatchDogs, AC4, and Dead Rising 3 on disc, and Ryse and Forza digitally. The idea being The open world games will require more time per play, and the other two are great for getting right into.
Can't wait for Nov. 22 :D
Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
Inscrit depuis 7450 JoursGiven the rumored specs for both systems, can anyone conceive of a circumstance or decision one platform holder could make, where despite the theoretical performance benchmarks of the components, the box that appears “weaker” could actually be more powerful?
I believe the debate on this could give some light to why we don’t want to engage in a specification debate until both boxes are final and shipping.”
People DO understand that Microsoft has some of the smartest graphics programmers IN THE WORLD. We CREATED DirectX, the standard API’s that everyone programs against. So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think we don’t know how to build a system optimized for maximizing graphics for programmers? Seriously? There is no way we’re giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has seen both systems running could say there are great looking games on both systems. If there was really huge performance difference – it would be obvious.
I get a ton of hate for saying this – but it’s been the same EVERY generation. Sony claims more power, they did it with Cell, they did it with Emotion Engine, and they are doing it again. And, in the end, games on our system looked the same or better.
I’m not saying they haven’t built a good system – I’m merely saying that anyone who wants to die on their sword over this 30%+ power advantage are going to be fighting an uphill battle over the next 10 years…
Ryse looks great btw

Inscrit depuis 7578 JoursSure... Microsoft created DirectX. Sure... it's a good API. So is OpenGL. They don't have some kind of special insight that others do not. Especially when you consider how many developers have come and gone over the years. Some of the top level wizards are long gone. I'm sure they have wizards. And I'm sure their wizards work on the DirectX team still.
But really: He makes no specific claims. At all. You can't be wrong when you don't say anything.

Inscrit depuis 7578 JoursI mean really.. who even cares which console is more powerful? You guys keep saying it doesn't even matter..
..so why do you care so much about the "secret sauce?"
Inscrit depuis 7450 JoursSorry to have to break it to you, but you are APART of this. You have a membership card. And you have most definitely played a role around here LOL!
As for Penello, he's right and you know it. The last two generations started the exact same way. I think that's what Jin was getting at. And sure there's plenty of marketing speak, I mean this IS the time when they're supposed to do it. If you think about it, Nintendo didn't engage in any marketing speak and their platform went completely unnoticed last holiday season. I remarked on it several times, about how weird it was that a new Nintendo console was being released and how nobody seemed to care, INCLUDING Nintendo.
But you're right about it almost being over. Sure there will still be the occasional arguments over bean counting, and probably community watches over hardware failure. But that's just part of the territory. Speaking of which, if you're sick of all of this................you're probably in the wrong place. lol
It is what it is Grift. IT'S - A NEXT GEN - CONSOLE LAUNCH.
Inscrit depuis 6213 JoursAnd to your second point, the difference between the last two generations and this one is the raw hardware specs actually favor the Sony platform undeniably. The ps2 and ps3 had weaker hardware (apart from the Cell, but even then the differences only ever showed on ps3 exclusives).
A next-gen console launch used to be about games, and that excited feeling amongst everyone to get their hands on a new shiny piece of hardware and to experience new things with shiny graphics. Now its you and a few others babbling on about some unsubstantiated secret unannounced hardware that makes the XB1 so much better than even MICROSOFT has claimed.
What more do you need to know? Why is it you guys think the company you are championing is actually lying to you? Reality: they're not. Lets talk about games, and have some fun in here... this thread is a steaming pile of garbage right now.
