You won't want to hear it, but I actually love my Kinect- mostly for interface, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't had more than enough fun playing games on it. It's just different. It actually makes some games fun that wouldn't have been otherwise if they used a controller.
The Kinect sensor is a PART OF THE CONSOLE and it's design philosophy. Don't buy it if it's not your thing. There are other options, but there are plenty of people who ARE interested in keeping the machine consistent. God, I hope they don't remove the sensor- it just becomes boring and exactly like everything else. If you want a console without it, go Playstation or Nintendo. No one is stopping you.
Fuck I'm sick of hearing the same shit in these threads over and over. It's bordering on trolldom, and is diminishing my enjoyment of the site. I miss the excitement of new consoles. It's not about everything having to be cheerleading, either. We've had the discussion, and people just popping into the forum to spout how much they don't like it is getting tedious. Oh wait.. I get to hear about how Korn won't buy it unless they remove the sensor again!? YAY!
Please let Gamescom give us something else to talk about..
Oooh, Profound, isn't it?

Get Optimus behind something and you'll see some real cheerleading. Pompoms and all. I'll get over it. You don't see me bothering with Call of Duty anymore (or its kin) and as you've implied, we will game on without Xbox.

Former Steam boss Jason Holtman lands at Microsoft
Of course, Holtman's duties could expand beyond just PC gaming as well. Digital distribution is expected to be a major component of the eighth generation of consoles. And while his experience so far has been on the PC side, Microsoft may be looking for Holtman to drive adoption and consumer loyalty of online purchases on the Xbox One in the years to come.
"[Business to consumer] is not just having someone's credit card number," says Taylor. "It's how you use that handshake to maximize satisfaction for the vendor and maximize satisfaction for the customers. This kind of direct relationship is the next stage in the evolution of the games business. Valve is already there on the PC side and I think Microsoft would be very happy to have some sort of Valve template to lay on top of the Xbox."

There are some other dynamics at play as well. Microsoft hasn't been able to find the same media partners in all of the markets it wants to launch in, this could be a contributing factor to the delays in those markets mentioned yesterday. It was leaked in June that Microsoft is in negotiations with Sky UK to offer a subsidized Xbox One. Here they've already got Verzion, Comcast and AT&T on board and many suspect they will be offering subsidized Xbox One's with local service as well. So Microsoft is taking steps to soften the price for casuals should they choose to adopt.
On Major Nelson's August 9th Podcast, Albert Penello was visiting and talking about the X1 unboxing and a few other things. The conversation shifted to tablet applications, specifically Next Issue which is great digital magazine app that I have. About 50-51mins into the podcast Penello asked Larry, Laura and Eric to cut their mics for a moment because he has "something to show them from Microsoft Research" After a brief pause they all come back sounding very amazed at what Penello has revealed to them. Larry then proclaims, "Albert is living the future with that gadget"
I think Microsoft has much more planned in the future if the road to fortaleza document continues to hold true. That means over the next 24 months we could see AR and VR headsets, slates (XB Surface) etc. So again, all the more reason to keep Kinect bundled. That's one less gadget for people to buy, especially when you're planning to introduce several of them.

Inscrit depuis 7453 JoursKinect and digital distribution was never going to be as bad as that. And it IS their fault for not explaining it properly and they're continuing to recover from that.
But given the above comment, I would say your feelings over this are TOO STRONG. You're going to be hating Microsoft over this a for LONG time, maybe even the rest the generation. So give it up. Kinect or no Kinect, it doesn't matter to you at this point. And since it doesn't matter there's no reason for you to continue to push for it's removal. You're Not Going To Buy An Xbox One.
Microsoft has made about as fair a gesture as any mega corporation will ever make by allowing you to set controls for Kinect, but the sensor remains a central part of their strategy. But if Kinect is being used as the excuse for not purchasing an X1 then I think it's fair to say that person already made up their mind not buy one.
None of us has a crystal ball..........well maybe Tinks has one, but we remember how the last gen started. People love to bet against this company, Ballmer has blown so much cash it's not hard to imagine why. But what I mean is that the Xbox brand wasn't even supposed to have a chance when they first entered the market. It was being called the biggest mistake Microsoft would ever make. And again in 2005 the 360 was being "Dreamcasted" before even a single unit had been sold.
So now we're 3-For-3. Another Xbox console is "doomed" Like docLEX suggested, in 2-3 years this should be a much more interesting conversation.
